Landmark Aviation is an aviation services company that offers a wide variety of services at MRO repair centers, at 41 FBOs across the United States and Canada, with 1 in Ireland (Dublin EIDW) & 2 in France (Paris Le Bourget LFPB & Nice LFMN) and within its aircraft sales, charter and management business. The company also operates Associated Air Center, a transport completion center.
Landmark Aviation is derived from a company called "Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated" which operated for about a year before being rebranded in October 2005. Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated was in turn created from the merger of three companies (Garrett Aviation, Piedmont Hawthorne, and Associated Air) which were all owned by the Carlyle Group.
In 2007, Landmark was merged with two other entities, and took the name StandardAero from one of those. [1] Like Landmark, StandardAero is owned by Dubai Aerospace Enterprise.
In March, 2008, an acquisition of the company was completed by Encore FBO, GTCR Golder Rauner and Platform Partners from Dubai Aerospace. [2]
The initial companies in the group purchased were Garrett Aviation Services (Primarily completion, engine, avionics, and airframe maintenance sites - formerly owned by General Electric), Associated Air Center, and Piedmont Hawthorne Aviation.
The maintenance facilities formerly belonging to Garrett and AAC were eventually split back off and sold as a package to DAE, merged with Standard Aero and rebranded StandardAero (One word, no space)
The Piedmont Hawthorne and former Garrett aircraft fueling operations facilities remained with Landmark and were eventually sold to GTCR Golder Rauner and Platform Partners, LLC
The reason for the split sale was due to some unspecified federal trade provisions regarding fuel sales that prevented DAE from purchasing that segment of the business.
